With the holiday season now officially upon us, I'm already planning those holiday party outfits. I love the idea of looking festive and glam, but still feeling super comforable. I think this dress by Robert Rodriguez achieves just that; Super soft jersey material with a little bit of sparkle on the shoulders to glam it up. I paired it with velvet booties to keep it fresh, as knee high or over the knee boots might look like you're trying too hard to be sexy...

Jersey dress - Robert Rodriguez, Trench coat - Burberry Prorsum
Black velvet stiletto booties - Sergio Rossi, Clutch - Rebecca Minkoff, Gold heart shaped clutch - Mistress Rocks
Black chrystal cuff - Giuseppe Zanotti, Gold chainlink studs - ASOS

Full on swagger!

Monday morning back to work. I love the the fresh modern cut of these Dolce & Gabbana trousers, the dark gray works so well with dark chocolate brown. Plus I've been really loving the look of these satin bodysuits lately.

Gray silk bodysuit - Donna Karan, Brown long coat - Balmain, Camel blazer - Rag & Bone
Gray wool pants - Dolce&Gabbana, Brown shoes with silver bow - Ivanka Trump, Black leather handbag - Michael Kors
Diamond earrings - Harry Winston, Gray fringe scarf - Basile, Black gloves - Valentino

I know this is the second (nearly) all black outfit I've shown you this week, but that's the effect this colder weather is having on me. In my defense, I did warn you. :) Plus it's raining today. I have this theory about umbrellas. They must be fun, funny or fab. Hence the weird leopard print umbrella collection. The way I see it is: The mere fact that you have to use an umbrella in the first place is depressing enough, don't let the umbrella itself be depressing too.

Turtle neck top - By Malene Birger , Leather jacket - Dolce & Gabbana, Black pants - Ilaria Nistri Sneakers - Converse, Gray bag - Alexander Wang Rocco, 18 karat gold cuff - Reed Krakoff , Diamond Studs - Jamie Wolf
Leopard umbrella - Evans, Shawl - Cult Status
I'm sure the folks over a Fashionista had a good laugh sorting through images for this ingeniously hilarious feature. It was really really difficult to narrow it down, but here are my favorites.

Janice and Donatella Versace

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Alber Elbaz

Heidi Klum and Miss Piggy

Sam the Eagle and Karl Lagerfeld

Crazy Harry and Olivier Zahm

This is just so funny and there's quite a few more; Anna Wintour (of course), Tom Ford, Vivienne Westwood. You can check them all out over at Fashionista.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Even if you don't follow beauty trends you probably know how popular BB creams are right now. But do you know what the "BB" stands for? Let me tell you, it's not "Black Beauty".

"BB" actually stands for "Blemish Balm". The cream was first introduced in Germany, where it was prescribed to laser surgerypatients to help protect, soothe and refine their skin, while providing light coverage for post-laser scars, acne and other blemishes. After being referred to as "the secret of Korean actresses" (who are extremely popular throughout Asia), BB cream quickly became a must have makeup product in Asia and the hype was born. The hype eventually blew over to the west. BB cream became a cult hit among beauty bloggers.
Now, since the creams were generally made for and marketed to the Asian market, the whitening / brightening properties and the glaring lightness of the shades available could be excused. However, when a well known western skin care brand like Garnier releases a drugstore version of BB cream and the only 2 shades available are "Light" and "Medium", it's a bit disappointing.

I mean, really? Medium? Besides, doesn't "medium" imply that it is in the middle of a spectrum? Where's the third cream? At the moment the darkest BB cream on the market is Missha's Nr. 31 "Golden Beige". Which of course is still too light for my skin tone, but that didn't stop me. Nope, not me... Bandwagon rider that I am, I went ahead and purchased this trial set from Skin 79.

I was intrigued by the idea of a formulation that gave more coverage than a tinted moisturizer, but wasn't as heavy as a foundation. Excellent for days when you want a some coverage, but don't really want a full face of make up. I tried it and I liked the finish that the pearlescent version (far right in photo above) gave when I applied it lightly and then corrected the color with my mineral foundation. The result, though lovely, was still too "shimmery" for an everyday look The others were just unworkable.

I had a Eureka moment this past weekend though. I was playing around with some Make Up Forever liquid foundation that was really too dark for me and I thought why not mix it with the BB cream to lighten it? Which I promptly did, mixing the foundation with some of the shimmer-less Diamond BB cream. (second from the left in photo above) The result is perfect! Plus I've also noticed that this combination controls the shine in my T-zone even better than my matte mineral foundation on it's own. Honestly, Garnier could not have achieved a better match to my skin tone even if they tried. So I'm not mad at them any more. They still get a big fat snooty french accented "zero points" for not even trying.

But anyways, if you're a dark skinned beauty and wanting to try out BB creams just know that you can make it work for you. Try mixing the BB cream with a foundation that is 1 or 2 shades darker than your normal foundation and make a perfect match to your skin tone. As BB creams generally have more pinky under tones your safest bet is to go with a foundation that has yellow undertones.
Good luck!
Today's look is my go to outfit for quick easy winter chic. Playful feminine elements like the Disney Couture earrings and the bows on the gloves help soften the look. Choose black pumps (paired with black opaque tights) or knee high boots to keep the silhouette sleek and uniform, which will give the illusion of height.

Turtleneck top - By Malene Birger, Beige coat - Burberry Prorsum, Leather skirt - Kelly Bergin, Patent leather boots - Georgina Goodman
Black studded Pigalle pumps - Christian Louboutin, Black leather bag - Zara Ivory earrings - Disney Couture, Hinged bracelet - Forever21, Bow gloves - Mango
Who knew that "Yeti Chic" could look this good!

I'll be the first to admit that when I saw Chanel's Fall 2010 RTW collection, I seriously questioned Mr. Lagerfeld's sanity. (Don't we all from time to time?) And when Shirley Eniang showed us this H&M coat in her latest haul video, I questioned her sanity as well. However, looking at the pic above I have to give it her, she definitely made the thing work!

Maybe Joe Zee should call her for tips on how to rock his Chanel Yeti jumpsuit. :)

I had no idea how much I needed a velvet pencil skirt in my life... Until today. Now I'm thinking: "How freaking fantastic would a black velvet pencil skirt look paired with my River Island asymmetric pumps for a Christmas or New Year's party?" And that my friends is how an obsession is born...

Amber Rose is wearing this little Givenchy number...

which is available at Matches online boutique for € 1.489.

But you know me, I had to shop around a bit to see what else is out there. Here's what I found.

Stella McCartney

At $1.085 it isn't much of a bargain compared to the Givenchy, but it's so gorgeous I just had to share it with you. You can get it at Net-A-Porter.

Online consignment store Yoox.com has a nice selection including this Aquilano Rimondi for $ 295.

and this quilted bit of sexiness by JC de Castelbajac for just $118.

In all honesty though, I'm tempted to go the DIY route with this one. That is, if I can find the right fabric. I'll keep you posted!
If you loved Christian Louboutin's Rollerball studded loafers...

but your wallet wasn't as keen...

And if you saw TopShop's attempt at studded loafers...

and, like me, you just laughed...

Then my friend I've got just that little bit of dupe-a-liciousness you've been needing and wanting in your life! Behold! (okay I'll stop now)... ehem... Check out these babies from Romwe.

And of course they're available in leopard too...

Go get them here: >>> Romwe. You have to be quick though, there aren't many left!!
Today's office Monday is inspired by the gray and blue-ish tones of the misty late autumn days we've been having here lately. Styling tip: If you have an Apple or Banana body shape, try switching the colors around. Wear a darker shade on the lower half of your body and a ligther shade on top. This will give balance to your silhouette.

Dark blue knit top - Mint Velvet, Brown wrap coat - Debenhams, Gray tailored pants - Clemens en August, Blue platform heels - Sergio Rossi Handbag - Banana Republic, Gold cuff - Stella McCartney, Gold & tortoise cuff - Marc by Marc Jacobs
Gold bib necklace - Adam Lippes, Leather gloves - Mango

INCITE, INVIGORATE, INFLUENCE, INSPIRE

By Jessie Thorpe of Denimology
When selecting blogs to be featured in Links à La Mode, more often than not, I'm drawn in by an interesting image or a cleverly composed title. I'm a big fan of wit, whimsy and a little sarcasm. However, this week I handled things a bit different and made choices spurred on by inspiration, you know, that good ol' gut feeling!
Bloggers aplenty (this means you) emboldened me to do more than just write about style and fashion (denim in my case). I wanted to bust out some serious sequin yardage. I pondered why everything looks better with glitter. I was impressed- no, I was in awe- with brilliant use of nail polish! I chose links that lured me far from my computer, taunting me to use my hands for anything but typing. Dear bloggers, you may have a small pedestal (you know.. your blog), but your voice can still be mighty... and inspirational! The future of fashion belongs to those of us willing to get our hands dirty!
After you've had a good read of this weeks links, step away from the computer and go stain up those hands. Make sure to document the process because, you know, your coming right back here to your computer anyway. You may as well be inspirational. Last thing, it's okay if all you do is make is a mess; at least you were inspired and that counts for something, right?

As demostrated by the lovely Eva Marcille this summer, a woman in a tuxedo can make quite the statement!

We've been seeing the tuxedo style blazer around for a while now, but lately I've noticed a clear shift from black to white tuxedo jackets. Here are my picks...

H&M €50

Zara TRF (€ 60)

Just Cavalli (€ 835)

Tibi (€ 750)
So yesterday my first GlossyBox finally arrived! And yes, I was excited for my little box of goodies. I think
I'm going to share the contents of my glossy box with you every month and tell you what my faves, hits and misses were.

Alright, on to the unboxing!

 What was in it...

Herome glass nail file, with case and a Herome nail polish from their World Inspired Colors collection in nr.97 "Tokyo".

L'Oreal hair mask and you can just barely see the little sample of their Mythic Oil that was in the box as well. I already tried out the oil and I think I like it. I just might purchase a full size bottle of it.

A Rituals lipgloss & Anastasia brow set including the clear eyebrow gel and a pair of mini tweezers. PLUS a gift card to get your eyebrows analyzed and reshaped by an Anastasia consultant. Ooohh. :)

And lastly a sample of Comfort Zone Skin Defender cream. Which retails at €85 for a 50ml jar. I couldn't find any reviews for it on Make up Alley though. Have any of you guys tried this product? Did you like it? Let me know in the comments!

So that was it and overall I'm pretty pleased with the contents. I do hope that they'll include more luxury brands in the future. Although these are very nice products, L'Oreal, Herome & Rituals are still all drugstore brands. We'll just have to wait and see what December's box holds!
Burgundy might be the hot color for this fall, but I've been really enjoying deep dark racing green.

Long sleeve dress - Mango, Camel cocoon coat - Zero Maria Cornejo , Crystal ring - Kohls
Black patent leather waist belt - Lara Bohinc, Earrings - Solomon Brothers
Dark green bag - Chloé, Patent leather heels - Louis Vuitton
Have you seen these? I mean... they're not ground breaking, jaw dropping or of awe inspiring fashion significance. They're light, fun and easy on the eyes. Which is also an accurate descpription of Forever 21 as a brand.

This one is so cute:

These lovelies are Lanvin's Cut Out Leather Pumps (Fall 2010 RTW).

I saw them on Stokhlom Streetstyle about a year ago and at the time they were available at Net-A-Porter for € 690. So yeah... that was never going to happen.

(photo from: stokholmstreetstyle )

Last week I saw these babies in Zara...

So very similar and only € 69,95! I'm tempted... just a little.
In an ideal world, I would own a pair of Isabel Marant "Cleane" booties...

and I'd wear them just. like. this.

(photo credit: Come over to the dark side)

I love this combination. Navy blue works so well with dark brown and pinky nudes.

Cream dress shirt - Oasis, Wool Cape - Toast, Tweed jacket - Spiegel, Navy blue pants - Barney's,
Leopard print stilleto heels - Sam Edelman , Pink ballet flats - Kat Maconie, Leather shoulder bag - Diane von Fürstenberg,
Watch - Marc, Gold cuff bracelet - Lee Angel Jewelry, Sheepskin gloves - Friis,
I celebrated my 35th birthday with family and friends yesterday and they spoiled me rotten with the most sweet and thoughtful gifts. I am truly blessed..

From Le BF: River Island's asymmetric pumps.
Clearly I was getting a little obsessed with these, so he surprised me with them at dinner. He actually dropped them off at the restaurant earlier that day and had the waitress bring them to the table during dinner. So sweet!! I love them and him so much!!!

From my BFF (Bella Pella Spenderella): Style Yourself. The bloggers' guide to style.
I love it and I can't wait to get stuck in! Thanks Bella! Luv Ya!

From myself: Zara TRF snake skin ballerina's.
After uhm-ing and ahh-ing over these for the last 2 months, I decided to get them for my birthday. I'm so glad I did!

From my other BFF (Francie Pants): A hand made, one of a kind bracelet.
It looks like a set of bangles on but it's actually one long band that spirals around your wrist. I can't wait until she opens her online store so that I can share more of her beautiful pieces with you guys!

From my Mom: A necklace and bracelet set.
Gold jewelry is a very traditional birthday gift in our culture and I love this set. Very classic! The gift card left of the set is from La Mama du BF. She is such a sweet and supportive lady and I love her for raising the beautiful man I am blessed to call mine.

I had such a wonderful time at brunch surrounded by all my loved ones. I felt like the richest woman in the world to see four generations of love, laughing, talking and eating together. Thank you all so much for being there to celebrate my birthday with me. A thousand million hugs and kisses!!
